  • Isis Talks Music and Film

March 8th, 2010 by Lyndsey. Uncategorized

Isis is a recognized music artist that has made an impact not only to the Canadian music scene but, internationally. Living in Toronto, it is hard not to miss the buzz around her, whether it’s on the cover of Now or eye. She is one half of the party rap group, Thunderheist, who had a song featured in the film The Wrestler.

Take a look at the video clip with Isis and be on the lookout for her solo material coming out; even though I have a feeling you won’t have to look hard.

    Soundtracks and Producing

February 25th, 2010 by Lyndsey. Uncategorized

Over the weekend, I had the pleasure if meeting music producer, Vikas Kohli.

Vikas is very versatile in the types of music he produces. His portfolio reads as if you were listening to satellite radio on random, jumping from Soul, Punk, Pop, Metal to County … all over the place, really. Aside from producing bands, Vikas has worked on movie soundtracks. In this video, he explains the differences he finds in the producing an album and a soundtrack.

Oh, it’s not mentioned in this clip, but he has worked with the notable Cappadonna from the Wu-Tang Clan (!)

    La Palette with owner Shimez

December 13th, 2009 by Lyndsey. Uncategorized

For years I ran a skateboard shop across the street from the french bistro called La Palette. The shop started in 2004, located on the north end of Augusta Street in Kensington Market.  Around that time, Augusta Street was fairly bleak and deserted except for a single bike store, Bikes on Wheels.  Every year, the crew from La Palette and their owner Shimez organized, which began to turn the strip into a destination to check out.  The most recognized event would have to be P.S. Kensington (car-free Sundays).  P.S. Kensington offers; food from local businesses in a street vendor setting, metal/punk bands playing on the street, salsa dancing where anyone can participate, and a lot more.  This public event continues to attract hundreds maybe thousands of people.

Check out the interview with Shimez about the local foods they serve and diverse background of La Palette.

    “Canadian Delicacies”

December 2nd, 2009 by Lyndsey. Uncategorized

ABC News just covered a story on Canadian culinary invasion into the states.

It’s pretty funny and even talks about an “unassuming donut shop, representing all that is Canadian” in Penn Station.  Can you guess what they are referring to?

    Korean Food

December 1st, 2009 by Lyndsey. Uncategorized

Lately, I have craving Korean food. I live around Bloor and Bathurst, so it’s not hard to come by. Last night, I finally caved and went to dinner with my close friend Zoe and suggested Ka Chi in Kensington Market. We both live fairley close so the location was perfect. Zoe has never been to Ka Chi and it had been a long time for me.

Ka Chi was packed as usual (as many reviews will point out). However, we were seated quickly and brought a pitcher of hot tea. After looking over the menu, we wrote down our orders and were instantly brought a number of side dishes (Banchan). The best part, however, was that the sides were immediately refilled once we were finished, which was good news to me, since I can never have enough Kimchi. One day I will try to make Kimchi, but for now, I am happy with my free refills at Ka Chi Korean Restaurant.
